16/11/2004 Junk food adverts have been banned on TV before 9pm in an attempt to fight Britain’s obesity crisis.
Health Secretary Dr John Reid believes the move is necessary to protect youngsters watching early evening television.
A new food labelling system and lifestyle gurus on the NHS will also be among major new health plans unveiled this week.
Limited action to prevent smoking in public places is also due in the Government White Paper published by Dr Reid on Tuesday.
Junk food adverts were expected to be barred during children’s television programmes.
